I have had a deep concern for sexual abuse and trafficking of boys and young men since I was sexually abused by a man at a Christian conference centre in 1974 when I was thirteen years old. In my PhD research of teenage children in Cambodia in 2003-2005 I found that more boys than girls reported more violence both physical and sexual than girls. I have since done research on Sexual exploitation and trafficking of boys and young men in Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines. My wife died a few years ago and since then I have come out as a gay man. I used to think my abuse had caused this, but now I realise this is untrue.
